Anyone here keeping the green lace shrimp? I just got two yesterday. They are beautiful, and very fascinating creatures.

Hi Carole,

they're real cool. I've been toying with the idea of getting some for my 64-l-tank, but it's crowded as it is...

Do you have pictures?

(After what I've seen from you I'd really, really love to see more photos...)

Cheers
Ulli

Thanks Ulli! I just received a new camera battery yesterday, mine had quit taking a charge. I will be working on new photos. Though these guys are slightly elusive. I noticed one had molted. They are not beyond using their front claws to pick up food, not just filtering. They move rather quickly to get around the tank, as opposed to other dwarf shrimp which do not. Their colors are rather striking, a mix of several. Sadly, from what I can gather{and there is not a whole lot of info in english} they need brackish water to breed, and only females are generally available. So I probably have two girls. They hang out near each other. Cool

Hej Carole,

afaik no one has so far managed to breed filter shrimp in captivity (which is a real pity). Someone on the German board has a berried female and is going to give it another try.

Let's see what comes off it.

Cheers

Hi,

I´m keeping 6 of them at the moment together with the other fan-shrimps.
I´ve allready tried to breed Atyopsis moluccensis but the larvae died after some time.Anyway I will give it another try again and again when one is carrying eggs, same with the other fan-shrimps. With Atyoida pilipes there is a big possibility of being protandric, which would mean they are male in youth and turnig into female later,as studies showed only femals at certain size of the shrimps. So if one would like to give it a try see that you have small and larger individuals.

Crikey, she's a beaut! (The shrimp, of course)

Heike, thank you for your insightful post! So they really do that, turn into females in later life? How interesting...

Cheers

Thanks for your reply. That is interesting. I read an article that suggested only females were imported.
Thanks Ulli. That one is the more outgoing of the two. The other is smaller, and I believe is the one who just molted yesterday. I found the molt, and the shrimp was just climging to a plant. I thought at first something was wrong with her. Probably just recovering. Cool I think they are awesome.
