Do-it-yourself gravel cleaner
Take a PVC air tube (I used one with a dia of 7 mm, about 1.5 meters long) and a cap of e.g. a spray can. Make a hole into the cap (the tube should fit in closely), put the tube in and use aquarium silicone to fix it there.
If you want you can glue two plastic (or wooden) toothpicks inside the can with which you can stir the gravel a little when cleaning. I didn't, but it still works fine.

Hey,
do you have pictures of your construction?
I had a similiar idea.
Instead of the cap I used a plastic bottle.
