I saw an old friend the other day, 3 years ago I gave them a baby crayfish before they moved. All mine are huge now. But when I saw it, it was exactly the same size it was 3 years ago! About 3cm.

It lives in a small fish bowl. Could be the reason?

Hello,

yes that's right. If the tank is very small the cray's doesn't growing in a normally way in some cases.
But this isn't really good.

Would it shorten its life? It's about 3 years old now. I think redclaws live around 5? They said they pick him up and change the water every few days. No pump, no filter etc. It's unbelievably tame.

Hi,

no wonder the cray stayed small. The Invert Working Group of Germany (AG Wirbellose) recommends a tank of no less than 200 liters (52G) for one single Cherax quadricarinatus...
I'm pretty sure that this will shorten the cray's life - this is pure stress for the poor thing.
