I have seen this one listed as Orange Halo Shrimp
Caridina sp
aka: Orange Bee Shrimp.

I an ordering some to have a look at and to see if they will breed true if at all.... They are supposed to breed in freshwater??? Anyone see these before? I like Orange shrimp, but most do not reproduce in fresh water from what I have read. These shrimp are from Thailand the seller says.

Hi Bill,
the only orange Caridina from Thailand I know is, according to W. Klotz, C. propinqua. Those do not breed in freshwater, however, I'm sure you're aware of that.
In Germany, we've heard rumors about people breeding an orange shrimp of the Neocaridina family, but there's no proof so far. Might be weakly colored Red Cherries or another color variant of N. heteropoda.

BTW, is this your picture? If not, would you be so kind as to replace the picture by a link? There are pretty harsh copyright infringement laws in Germany, and as this forum is German-based we have to be a little careful here...

Hi Bill,
It looks slightly different from those that are easily available in Singapore. The Orange is much deeper and more intense. Mine was originated from Indonesia, it's a low level form and will not breed in freshwater.

Hi,
on the second Link it shows definetifly Neocaridina heteropoda (former N.denticula sinensis) var.red,also called "Red Fire" or "red Cherry" shrimp as Ulli allready said.The only Halo shrimp I know is "Halocaridina rubra,also known as Opa´e ula or Hawaiian shrimp.Anyway ,it is no Bee shrimp |
