How or what do you use to remove chlorine and heavy metals from your water?

Hi George.

Interesting that you filter your water rather than use liquids.

Do you think the liquid water treatments that remove chlorine etc are good enough for these shrimps ?

Thanks
James

Hello James,

I think all liquid water products only bind such substances that will be released in to the water again after some weeks.

This reiser filtration removes this completely. Also medicine substances to be traced in the tap water.

Thanks George,

Does your filter change the pH, GH, or KH ?

Cheers

I think I'll look into getting something similar myself.

Cheers

Hi James,

If you looking for some advance filtration system to remove chlorine and heavy metal, you can try using a DI or RO unit. I bought mine from Filter-Direct. Don't get me wrong, I'm not related to this company.

But do take note, DI and RO water lacks of mineral and nutrients. Depending on the type of shrimps you are keeping, you might need to add some supplements.

Cheers!

I use RO in many of my shrimp tank and agree that additives to replace some minerals is a good idea if one uses this type filtration (RO). I use Kent's RO Right as well as some mineral powder to avoid moulting problems for the shrimp.

Hi,

dependent on needed water exchange and number of tanks your bill could be enormous because your waste more than 70% of your tab water. Only 30% or less can be used for your tank.

My system offers a 100% ratio. The disadvantage of this system is the left nitrate and phosphate. By the way, this water is vital.

Hi George,

Do you measure Total Dissolved Substance as one of the important water parameters?

Cheers!

Dear George,

Yup. It's Total Dissolved Solids. I kept changing it to Subtances.
My TDS pen is in PPM and it measured 140ppm. How do I convert to µS?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Emorsso,

140 ppm must be approx. 280 µS. See here: http://www.hydroponicequipment.com/detail.asp?itemnumber=1929
