Shrimp care tips

- The initial starting time for a stable bacteriafauna is normally 3-5 weeks. Adding “used” filter material can shorten the initial starting time drastically.

- Water changes with water in adapted water temperature should be done regularly.

- High portions of copper and lead coming from the house water pipes have to be excluded. Maybe even test the freshwater for incompatible substances.

- Water values: Nitrite, nitrate, ph-value, KH, oxygen and ammonia.

- Don´t keep shrimps with different requirements of water values in the same tank.

- Be careful with the socialization with other shrimps, fish or other invertebrates (crabs, crawfish,.....)

- Be careful using medicine in the aquarium. We advise: don’t use medicine!

- Don´t use any anti-algae or anti-snail fluids in the shrimp-tank.

- If copper was used in the tank before the shrimps were added, change the tank-base, because the copper deposits itself in the tank base

- Avoid high portions of fertilizer. Follow the instructions.

- Be careful with by solvants (in room paint/ by renovations), insect sprays, room sprays and pesticides.

- There may be problems with a lot of nicotin in the air (especially when you are using an air-pump in the shrimp aquarium)

- Careful when using chemical water treatment fluids like phosphate fluids for raising the KH and GH. The best would be, not to use any at all.

- Clean your hands, befor working in the tank. Don´t use any soap or creams.

- New shrimps should be in a quarantine tank for 2 weeks before adding them to the shrimp tank.

- New plants, from “unknown” sources, (also specialised Dealer) should be watered to be on the safe side.

- Substrates like foam and rockwool should be removed completely. Remove the leadweights.

- Careful with cutting down plants from the anubia and cryptocoryne family. The “maybe” poisoning from the oxalacid isn´t “officially” investigated.

- Avoid stress and unnecessary disruption.

- Avoid too quick or too strong changes of the water additives.
