Calcium Blocks for Snails

1 or 2 tablespoons of goldfish sinking pellets lowest fat content you can find.
1 1/2 cups of water
Liquify

Now add DAP Brand Plaster of Paris until about the thickness of runny toothpaste and scoop/pour out into mold let sit up for 2 days and then remove. Now let those sit for another 5 days or so before adding to tank. Molds can be made from all kind of things I use the candy holder from chocolate covered cherrys they seem to make a great sized block.

One tub of the big DAP plaster will last you a year if you make blocks once a month or so.....

Now you can also buy the vacation feeders to get the same thing, but believe me the DAP blocks are pennies compared to dollars for the commerical ones.

Another way to add Calcium is fruit flavored tums just throw those right in (say 4 tabs every 3 or 4 days depending on the # of snails you will need to watch and adjust accordingly) or a cuttlebone as mentioned.

Also if you have a Safeway you can get liquid calcium to add to your snail jello if you make it yourself for $20 for 500ML instead of the tums in this following jello recipe.

Snail, Shrimp, and Veggie loving Fish food

*Warning you will need a real large pot*

50 Berry Flavored tums (50 ML of liquid Calcium)
3 heaping tablespoons of HBH goldfish sinking pellets
1/3 cup of water
Ground to a liquid adding just enough water to liquify
1 can of green beans
1 can of spinich
1 can of peas
1 can of carrots
Keep the juice and liquify
3 Bananas
1 Apple skin on
1 Pear
1/3 cup of water
Ground to liquid
1/4 cup of honey
1 4 oz jar of all natural strawberry preserves

Cook on low heat for 30 minutes. then add 1 1/2 cups of water bring to a boil then add 8 packets of Knox geletin cook for 2 minutes more. Now I like to scoop out into 1 gallon freezer bags about 1/4 full, get the air out and let gel in the fridge. This makes about 5 gallon bags full. I broke off a small piece once gelled and threw in the Shrimp and Red Rams tank and I had MTS coming up out of the substrate for the stuff. This also makes a great food for the veggie loving fish. Another adaptation is to add Kale one bunch and garlic 1/2 bulb both liquified for a more balanced fish food. You can also replace the goldfish food with 4 large raw shrimp with shells on. I flip back and forth on the Kale, Garlic, Shrimp additives every other time I make it. My Mollies tear it apart and they show great color and rapid growth on it.

Next time I plan on trying to add earthworms to it and see how that goes...
