Has anyone here used Potassium Permanganate, KMO4, to eradicate nasties from the tank? I've used it with Koi ponds and as a dip. I was wondering if it would work for this, since all the rightful inhabitants are out. It is neutralized with Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2.

    Any ideas, anyone?

I just added .15 grams of Panacur to the tank as well . Die hydra, die ! I'll keep posting results.

    Hi there

Red cherrys You don't need to "evacuate". They tolerate salinities up to 25 gr/L. Red crystal either – but I don't have an idea wether or ho much salt the shrimps from Sulawesi can take.

EDIT: Oh, did I read 5 gr per 25 litre aka 0,2 gr/L? That's no salt, that's still fresh water. "Salinities" of that range should not even be noticed by any crustacean.

Thank you for the insight, beastiependent. However, I have already added the Panacur and the hydra seem to be dying.

I noticed a hydra in the Cardinal holding container, so I removed the hydra and soaked the Marimo Balls in carbonated water for 30 seconds and reintroduced them back to the holding tank after a rinse in some other aquarium water. I plan on doing a 100% WC on the 15 gallon and adding Eco-Complete and the Ecco 2232 in the next couple of days. I'll keep you posted .

I changed all the water and added the Eco-Complete. I will set-up the canister this weekend using substrate from another canister to seed it well. I did lose one of the Cardinal adults in the holding container (it looks like it died during a molt). I will introduce the Cherry shrimp first (she is large and red). I will keep the updates rolling in... to be continued !

Yes, all hydra have been eliminated ! Panacur must also kill Nerite snails too ! I threw them out because they became extremely lethargic and almost motionless for 4 days. So I figured, no need to contaminate the tank with corpses ! I added the Eheim 2232 this morning and will run it for a couple of days before I re-introduce some Apple Snails and the lowly Cherry shrimp. I'll keep everyone posted !

Thats great news that the hydra are all dead, sorry about your Nerite snails, but yes no need to contaminate the tank. I am sure the apple snails and cherry shrimp will be happy now
