Thread: Tank for cherax holthuisi

    Default Tank for cherax holthuisi

    Hello,
I have a question about cherax holthuisi; what is the smallest tank where I can keep a pair of these crayfish (of course including lots of hiding places made of pipes and coconut shells)? I read that this specie is one of the most peaceful cherax. I am planning to buy a pair of them, but I do not know if my 54l aquarium will be sufficient for them or I will have to buy a new bigger tank.
    Regards.

I'd go for a 80 l, 54 might be a bit too small for them to go out of each other's way.
    However, you can't generalize - a well-structured 54 l is better than a bare 80 l tank...

Crays are individualists - you might be lucky and get two very peaceful ones, or more aggressive ones (or a combination).
And if they don't have enough room (or structure) to get out of each other's way they might well end up fighting and killing each other...

    Cheers

    Hi Pawel, Dzien dobre

I keep a couple of Orange tip, which is now also Ch. holthuisi since a long time in a tank 80x35x30 cm , means about net capacity of 70-75 liters, without problems. They are really peacefully sitting side by side under the same shelter.

    Cheers

    Hello,
thank you for replies, I want to put into tank undergravel pipe caves, some pipe pyramids and coconut shells so maybe 54l will work, but bigger tank is always better. Ill think about it.
